The Owl and the Pussy-cat, by Edward Lear

Vintage pocket watch and wristwatch parts, sea glass, rescued copper, velvet.

I’ve had an idea stuck in my head for a year, and after an intense month, I’ve completely this triptych of display pieces, one for each verse of the poem. It’s my first foray into adding colour to the natural gleam of the metals and sea glass that I love using. The first piece has a tiny bearing from an automatic (self-winding) wristwatch incorporated into the piece so that the boat can ride the waves.

Originally I was only going to make the first verse, but it seemed unfair not to “tell” the whole story, so two more creations evolved. I’ll get them professionally framed to give them a more formal presentation.
