Bear-ly on Time

I’m always thrilled when someone trusts me enough to commission a piece, with little more than a topic or theme and the phrase”Surprise me!”

Presenting “Bear-ly on Time”

Vintage pocket and wristwatch and clock parts, recycled copper, leather, timber.

Commissioned by a friend, who requested a bear. I sketched a couple of bear heads, but wanted something stronger, hence this view which attempts to show the strength, power and energy inherent in a large bear.

Every part is from an individual time piece – the nickel watch case, the rolled gold bezel, the crown, the bow and every part of the bear. The stand is made from a piece of railway sleeper, together with part of a German clock frame as the support.

The owner of the bear took delivery today and is very pleased, much to my relief!
